Zimbabwe Chess Federation hosted the Zimbabwe National Champions with over 160 chess players battling it out for honours in three categories men’s National chess championships, Ladies chess championships and candidates’ chess championships.
WCM Hazel Refiloe Mudodo who entered ladies open as the 6th best player managed to show us how her diligence work and commitment to the game of chess is paying off when she finished on position 1 with 7,5 points after 9 rounds.
In the men’s section it was a battle between champions Masango Spencer and Jemusse Zhemba. After round 6 Spencer was leading with a cool 6/6 whilst Zhemba was 5.5/6. The two gents then played against each other and Zhemba won. Jemusse Zhemba was then crowned as the champion winning with an impressive 8.5 after 9 games
Spencer Masango finished second with 7 points whilst Mapuranga Vitalis finished 3rd with 6.5 points. The Zimbabwe National Chess Championship was sponsored by Crystal Candy
