Hockey Association Of Zimbabwe have announced the winners of their annual sports awards and the Zimbabwe Ladies women’s hockey team who won bronze medal at the African Hockey Cup were crowned as the Sports team of the year. Their coach Mcvey Gus also swooped the coach of the year award.
Nicky Watson who played a bigger part in helping Zimbabwe women’s hockey team secure a bronze medal walked away with the sportswomen of the year award. Men’s senior hockey team captain and U-21 girls hockey team coach Tendai Maredza walked away with the sportsman of the year award, not to be left behind was Natalie Terblanche who made her first debut appearance for the Zimbabwe senior women’s hockey this year swooped the Junior sportswomen of the year.
Sarah Bennett who was appointed into the FIH Pro league panel in May this year and recently announced as an technical official at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games walked away as the Official of the year. St John’s College hockey team player Van Rooyen Daniel who play’s for the Zimbabwe U-18 and senior men’s hockey team was awarded as the Junior sportsman of the year. Joseph Ncube from Falcon College walked away with the most promising junior player whilst Arundel Girls High student Gugu Sibanda walked away with the most promising junior women player.
