For the past four months Zimbabwe U-21 ladies hockey team have been preparing for the Junior hockey world cup qualifiers slated from the 22nd to the 28th of March 2021 in Ghana.
In September Hockey Association of Zimbabwe named a 47 member squad. Which has been training and preparing for the World Cup qualifiers. From September to November the 47 member squad would receive online training from their head coach and his technical team.
Physical face to face training session resumed in November. This was after the Sports and Recreation Commission had granted HAZ the greenlight to resume training. From the 47 players Coach Tendayi Maredza trimmed the squad to 23.
Of the 23 only 18 will be in contention to travel to Accra, Ghana for the qualifiers. Speaking to Sports Rifle 724 Tendayi Maredza coach of the U-21 ladies hockey told us that they are now focusing on online sessions.
“With lockdown restrictions reintroduced. We are now focusing on online sessions. Working on our fitness and personal skills. Once we are granted permission to resume training we will try and push on the technical aspect.”- Tendayi Maredza
The technical team will name the final 18 in February. HAZ have paid tribute to the technical team for keeping the players in shape during the COVID-19 lockdown..
