At a time when most of us chose to believe that only football players who are at risk of testing positive for covid-19 a Malawi referee Gift Chicco hopes of officiating at the CAF Confederation Cup were thrown down the drain after he tested positive for covid-19.

Gift Vincent Chicco was scheduled to officiate the CAF Confederation Cup game between AS Kigali’s clash with CS Sfaxien at Kigali Stadium today but he had to withdraw after testing positive to the pandemic.

His Malawian counterpart Phillip Nkhakananga will replace him and will be assisted by Joseph Nyauti and Innocent Kaundula as linesmen. This will be Nkhakananga’s first time to officiate a CAF Confederation Cup game.

This is the first coronavirus case to affect officiating at the CAF Confederation Cup.
