Hockey Association of Zimbabwe Secretary-General Sarah Bennett who recently made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean to officiate a gold medal hockey match between Australia and Belgium at the Olympics has been appointed by FIH as a member of the development and education committee.
Bennett appointment was announced after the FIH Executive Board meeting held on the 4th of August in Tokyo.
The aim of the development and education committee is to assist FIH in supporting member National Associations with the implementation of Hockey2024, to assist the development of FIH Hockey Academy and future global development strategies.
Bennett appointment on the board also comes a couple of months after she was awarded the FIH Diploma of Merit. An award given to individuals who have been serving or served a period of distinguished service to the sport.
Speaking to Sports Rifle 724 Bennett said she was honoured by the appointment.
It’s an absolute honour to be appointed to the committee. Development and Education plays a major role in ensuring that the game of hockey grows as a whole across all continents.
Bennett is an educationist. and currently the deputy head of Ariel School. The Development and Education Committee is chaired by Tayyab Ikram.
