Zimbabwe’s WCM Kudzanayi Charinda finished in the sixth position at the just ended African Individual Chess Championship in Malawi.

Despite her starting ranking being 10th a sterling performance from Charinda saw her finishing 6th out of 34. A total of nine rounds were played and the 26-year-old  registered fives win two draws, and two defeats.

Charinda managed to push for draws against one of the main rival  Algerian WIM Nassr Lina before forcing another draw with Egyptian Wafa  Shahenda in the ninth round. Her two defeats came from South African WIM Jesse February and Chloe Badenhorst.

South African Jesse February was crowned as the champion in the ladies section whilst WIM Nassr Lina and Ayah Moaataz settled for silver and bronze respectively. Another Zimbabwean Christine Makwena finished 17th with five points.
