Chris Samba

Just last month the Zimbabwe football fraternity  lost Biggie Zuze who was the assistant coach of Dynamos Football club and also mourned Otilia Ngirande who was instrumental in the setting up of Flame Lily women’s football club.

Today we have learnt of the death of former Zimbabwe Premier soccer league CEO Chris Sambo. From what Sports Rifle 724 gathered the football administrator passed away this evening at Parirenyatwa hospital.

Sports Rifle 724 will remember Sambo for the amazing works he did for women’s football especially coordinating the formation of a Positive Women’s soccer league, a league that used football as a tool to tackle the stigma associated with HIV. The formation of the league also contributed to Sambo achievement after he was awarded the Auxillia Chimusoro award, which celebrated his commitment and courage in breaking the silence around the infection, reducing stigma and discrimination, caring for infected and affected people in 2009.

Sambo was also the  Projects Director for Sports Trust of Positiveness, an organisation that manages sporting activities for people living with HIV.
