The Zimbabwe Netball Gems dusted off their defeat to Malawi when they thumped Kenya 56-46 yesterday, to register their first win at the Pent Series tournament.
Kenya put up a brave fight, managing to go to the first quarter break apiece 13-13. Both teams utilized their turnovers in the second quarter, by the time the umpire signaled the end of the quarter it was Zimbabwe leading by a single goal 25-24.
A much improves Kenya returned for the third quarter as Zimbabwe struggled to score. It was Kenya that went to the breaking, leading 38-36.
The Lloyd Makunde coached side put on a brave fight in the last quarter, scoring 20 points whilst Kenya only managed to score eight.
Despite the victory, Zimbabwe Gems captain Felisitus Kwangwa was not pleased by her team performance during the first three quarters.
Uganda She Cranes continued their unbeaten run after defeating Malawi 59-43 whilst Zambia suffered their second defeat, losing to Namibia by 34-53.
The action continues today with Zimbabwe playing the She Cranes of Uganda before Namibia takes on Malawi. The game between Kenya and Zambia will conclude day three fixtures.
