Zimbabwe Junior Ladies hockey team dream of making it a podium finish at the FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup can still be a reality, despite the Federation of International Hockey postponing the event.
The World Hockey governing board announced the postponement of the prestigious youth tournament last week, following the outbreak of the new Covid-19 variant in South Africa. Potchefstroom, South Africa was set to host the tournament from the 5th-16th of December.
Tendayi Maredza the head coach of the Zimbabwe U-21 team told Sports Rifle 724 that despite the tournament being postponed they are staying positive and are hopeful that the new dates of the tournament will be announced.
‘It’s hard on all of the teams but this is beyond our control, the virus is affecting all of us and we just have to accept the decision that was made by FIH and stay positive hoping that the new dates will be announced,’
Despite the postponement of the competition, it is busy as usual as the ladies continue their preparations for the competition.
