Sport’s in Zimbabwe came to a halt in mid-March, after the president declared the novel covid-19 as national disaster. In June the sports and recreation commission granted non contract sports the greenlight to resume training and competition.

Zimbabwean senior national hockey teams are set to participate in the Central-South Africa tournament next year in February, which serves as qualifiers for the Africa Hockey Cup. With the junior teams scheduled to participate in the U-21 World Cup qualifiers in March, with the aim of qualifying for the prestigious junior tournament.

Posting on his twitter handle Tendayi Maredza who serves as the U-21 ladies hockey team, player and captain of the Zimbabwe men’s hockey team questioned authorities asking them when they would grant them permission to resume training.

Zambia Hockey Association league resumed yesterday with Malawi and Namibia leagues expected to resume training and competition in October.
