After the successful performance by Zimbabwe volleyball players in the CAN U-21 Beach Volleyball Tournament this February in Mozambique, where the girls and boys team brought BRONZE medal. Zimbabwe Volleyball Association and Beach Volleyball Zimbabwe decided to host their first ever Zim Open beach volleyball tournament on 25 May.
A total of 8 girls and 8 men’s team took part in the tournament that was hosted at the 1st Battalion Presidential Guard. Africa Beach Volleyball Games Zimbabwe representative Keith Machakaire and Terrence Chapidzinga won all games undefeated with their toughest game been the final against a strong Kudzayi Sibangani and Kudakwashe Kandanda who showed us that they were in this tournament not just to add numbers but to also show their beach volleyball talent. Full time result Machakaire and Chapidzinga 2-0 Kudzayi and Kudakwashe.
Easy going for Viola Muchaoona and Proceed Mkonto who were crowned as the women’s champions after defeated Nyengeterayi Guyo and Charity Madhlangobe 2-0 in the final. It was Viola Muchaoona who contributed the most number of points 35 points that included 30 kills,4 aces and 1 block.
Harare Volleyball Association cancelled week 6 fixtures to give way to the successful hosting of the first ever Zimbabwe Beach Volleyball Open a clear indication of how the sport of beach volleyball is growing.
