There was a good deal of disappointment on the deck for Zimbabwe. After their men’s 4×100m relay team failed to make it in the final at the World Relay Championship in Poland last night.
The quartet made up of Dickson Kamungeremu, Makanaishe Charamba, Rodwell Ndlovu, and Ngoni Makusha finished 6th in heat two. Hitting the 400m mark in 40.54. Zimbabwe went into the championship ranked 8th following their impressive performance in Zambia.
Noticeably absent from the Zimbabwe relay team was Gerren Muwishi who had played an instrumental role when the team won a gold medal that saw them qualify for the Championship. The men’s team started smoothly with Dickson Kamungeremu as the starter who passed on the baton to Charamba.
Charamba started well but struggled in between finishing his 100m on the sixth position. A position that both Ndlovu and Makusha finished on. Brazil 38.45s and Germany 38.70 earned their qualification spot after the first and second respectively.
This was Zimbabwe’s second participation at the prestigious World Relay Championship their first appearance was in 2019. A lane infringement saw the team being disqualified on their debut appearance in the Championship.
