Former Zimbabwe Rugby Union ( ZRU ) President, Frank Putterill has died, Zimbabwe Rugby Union confirmed today.

Frank succeeded Basil Foster-Jones in 1996 to become the 17th President of the Zimbabwe Rugby Union.

He held the position from then until 1998 and was succeeded by B.Luxon.

Current President of Zimbabwe Rugby Union, Aaron Jani, and his Executive passed a condolences message to the Putterill family.

It is with a heavy and Sad heart that the Zimbabwe Rugby Union President Aaron Jani, his executive Committee, and board announces the passing On of former Zimbabwe Rugby Union President Frank PutteRill this morning.

The former Zimbabwe Rugby Union President succumbed to a CarDiac arrest. He was president of ZRU from 1996 to 1998.

We join his family and e Rugby community in his life and reflecting  his amazing contribution to Rugby.

May his dearest soul rest in everlasting peace.

The ZRU administration of Foster-Jones and later Putterill developed a strategy that was aimed at high-density areas and rural schools. In the process ensuring the development and certification of coaches from the basic level to level three.

This talent development program ensured strong competition as all the talent from grassroots Rugby development was channeled to national league teams. During that era, the Zimbabwe Sables were known as the Zambezi Sable and played in the Currie Cup tournament.
